1. The service
SCOPE analyses openly available satellite imagery for locations you choose and reports detected surface change (for example land clearing, construction or earthworks, burn scars, flooding or drying), with maps, estimated areas, coordinates, a confidence score, an alert status and downloadable reports. An AI assistant answers questions about the service and your results.
2. Accuracy and limitations
- Imagery resolution is about 10–20 metres. Individual trees, small structures, vehicles and very small plots cannot be detected reliably.
- Cloud, haze, shadows, tides, flooding, seasonal vegetation and crop cycles can cause missed or false detections. SCOPE uses radar and seasonal history to reduce these effects but cannot remove them completely.
- Confidence scores rank the strength of the combined evidence. They are not guaranteed probabilities.
- Change type labels (such as “construction” or “burn scar”) are automated interpretations of spectral and radar signals and may be wrong.
- Place names are resolved automatically and can match the wrong location; check the coordinates shown with every result.
- The AI assistant can make mistakes. It is instructed to use only SCOPE's results, but its answers are not professional advice.
3. No warranty and limitation of liability
SCOPE is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose or uninterrupted availability. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator of SCOPE is not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, the service or its outputs, including decisions about property, finance, insurance, compliance or legal matters.
4. Acceptable use
You agree to use SCOPE lawfully and not to use it to monitor, track or harass individuals, to infringe anyone's privacy, or for any unlawful purpose. You are responsible for having the right to monitor the locations you submit where that matters for your use. We may suspend accounts that misuse the service or overload it.
5. Data sources and attribution
- Contains modified Copernicus Sentinel data (European Union / ESA), used under the Copernicus open data licence.
- Sentinel-2 imagery accessed via AWS Earth Search (Element 84).
- Sentinel-1 terrain-corrected radar via Microsoft Planetary Computer, licensed CC-BY-4.0.
- Place search © OpenStreetMap contributors (Nominatim, Photon), licensed ODbL.
Reports you download carry the required attribution; please keep it when sharing them.
6. Privacy
- What we store: your account email, name and password (stored only as a secure hash); the locations you scan and their results; and your chat messages with the assistant, so it can follow the conversation.
- How it is used: only to provide the service to you. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
- AI processing: the assistant runs on SCOPE's own server; your messages are not sent to third-party AI services.
- Third parties: place names you type are sent to OpenStreetMap geocoding services to find coordinates. Satellite data is fetched from the public catalogues listed above.
- Your choices: email us to receive or delete your account data.
7. Plans, limits and payments
SCOPE offers a Free plan and paid 30-day passes (see pricing). Each plan has usage limits (scans per day and month, AI messages per day) that SCOPE enforces automatically to keep the service reliable for everyone. Payments are made directly to the SCOPE operator (for example by PayPal or bank transfer, as listed on the Plans page when you are signed in) or, where offered, through an online payment processor. Passes do not renew automatically. A direct payment is activated once we have confirmed it in our account, normally within 1 business day; please include your SCOPE payment reference so it can be matched. Never send card numbers or passwords to anyone claiming to be SCOPE. Refunds follow the refund & cancellation policy. Custom reports or monitoring agreed in writing are governed by these terms plus that written quote or order. Deliverables are screening products as described in section 2. Full details of how we handle data are in the privacy policy.
8. Changes and contact
We may update these terms; the date above shows the latest version, and continued use means you accept the update. Questions, data requests or concerns: [email protected].
This document is a plain-language draft and should be reviewed by a qualified lawyer before SCOPE enters paid contracts.
